Welfare Organization Self-sufficiency
Supriya Kummamuru
2014 IEEE Conference on Norbert Wiener in the 21st Century · Health, Data, and People
Supriya Kummamuru of Tata Consultancy Services described the application of a "cybernetics influence diagram" to solve complex organizational problems. The case study focused on a government agency tasked with helping tribal communities achieve self-sufficiency, revealing how the organization had conflated two fundamentally different contexts: commerce and welfare.
By applying systemic cybernetic analysis, Kummamuru's team was able to disentangle these conflated contexts and develop more effective interventions. The presentation demonstrated that cybernetic tools are not merely theoretical abstractions but practical instruments for diagnosing organizational dysfunction and designing solutions. It offered a compelling example of how Wiener's intellectual legacy translates directly into improved outcomes for vulnerable populations.
